The delicate floral-herbal scent and flavor of this lavender latte creates a lovely, relaxing experience for the senses and is very easy to make. You really don't need any special equipment and only 3 ingredients (and only 3 more ingredients if you want to make your own lavender syrup, which is very easy to do so).

Ingredients

For Lavender Latte

  • 4 ounces of strong coffee or 2 ounces of traditional espresso
  • 1/2 cup of preferred milk
  • 2 tablespoons of Lavender Simple Syrup

For Lavender Simple Syrup

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons culinary lavender
  • optional 3-4 dried Butterfly Pea flowers (for color)

Instructions

For Lavender Simple Syrup

  • Add 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of sugar to a small saucepan and heat on medium until simmering. Stir to dissolve sugar.
  • Remove pan from heat source and mix in 2 tablespoons of culinary lavender. Cover and allow to steep for 15 minutes.
  • Strain out lavender (I used a pretty simple colander over a bowl and it did the job).
  • (optional, for color) In a separate small bowl, mix 3-4 dried butterfly pea flowers with a few tablespoons of warm water. If it's too blue, add a few drops of lemon juice (a very little goes a long way, don't worry about it turning your syrup sour). Add to the simple syrup mixture until desired color is reached.
  • Store your Lavender Simple Syrup in an air-tight container in the refrigerator. It should keep for 1-2 weeks.

For Lavender Latte

  • Add 4 ounces of strong brewed coffee to mug (or 2 ounces of espresso)
  • In a separate mug, mix 2 tablespoons of lavender syrup with 1/2 cup of preferred milk.
  • Steam lavender milk in microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute (alternative: heat milk in a pan over the stove).
  • Lightly froth milk (however works for you - hand frother, shake in a covered jar, pump in a French press, etc). Note: traditionally a latte has a light foam and with more foam you start heading into cappuccino territory, but don't worry about it and put as much foam as brings you joy!
  • Pour steamed milk into mug with coffee, scooping out excess foam with spoon if needed.
  • Garnish with leftover lavender to brighten your day.
