Making My Own Coffee-Infused Vodka

Coffee-Infused Vodka

I’ve really been having a blast playing around with coffee lately. With the holiday season coming up so soon, I thought it might be fun to try making some coffee cocktails. I decided to begin by making my own coffee-infused vodka. If you aren’t aware, it’s apparently all the rage to infuse your own vodka with all kind of fun things like fruit and spices and COFFEE – and here I am jumping on the bandwagon just in time to make some seasonal cocktails.

All of the recipes for coffee-infused vodka that I came across in my research utilized whole bean coffee, cracked a little or very lightly ground in a coffee grinder for more surface area. I don’t actually own a coffee grinder (blasphemy, I know), so I don’t really keep whole bean coffee on hand and I wanted to see what would happen if I just used some good ol’ fashion store bought ground coffee – and it worked beautifully! The only drawbacks I can see are, 1. Even when strained very carefully, you’ll still lose a bit of the vodka in the coffee grounds that is simply unrecoverable and 2. It comes out very strongly flavored. Small price to pay, I say.

This infused vodka has a yummy deep espresso flavor to it and I can’t wait to share with you guys how easy it was to make (if you don’t want it as strong, simply shorten your infusing time).

What You Need:

  • 1/4 cup ground coffee
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 cup of vodka
  • 1 jar with airtight lid

Directions:

  • Step 1: Add coffee and sugar to bottom of clean jar
  • Step 2: Pour in vodka and screw lid on super tight (trust me, I didn’t do mine tight enough the first time and got vodka all over my hands 😛 )
  • Step 3: Give a good shake.
  • Step 4: Store jar in a cool, dry place for 4-5 days, giving it a good shake at least once a day.
  • Step 5: Strain coffee/vodka mixture through coffee filter and enjoy! 🙂

I let my infusion sit for the full 5 days and it came out super strong and bold, it also smells incredible – I can’t wait to try out some new cocktails with this coffee-infused vodka! 🙂 🙂 🙂
