Description:
Erik never had to be anything other than a freakā€¦until now.

Two hundred fifty-three days is a long time to fake being normal whenĀ night after night you perform miraculous feats on stage in a freakĀ show. Thousands have paid toĀ witness the miracle, suspecting nothingĀ more than a hoax. But it is very real and it is slowly destroying him.Ā Erik is weakened to the point where heā€™ll stop performing andĀ startĀ going to school for the first time everā€”in his senior year. His onlyĀ goal is to rebuild his strength so he can return to the stage andĀ perform doing what he loves most inĀ this world. What he didnā€™t plan forĀ was the appearances of beautiful Addison and mysterious Naya. Now,Ā unfamiliar feelings and bizarre new friendships threaten toĀ unbalanceĀ Erikā€™s future as a miracle-performing freak.

Teaser Excerpt 1

The moment is perfect to lean in and kiss her. And I badly want to put my hand on her cheek and bring my lips to hers.

Addison looks at her wrist, my fingers still there. ā€œI should go,ā€ she says shattering my thoughts.

I slide my hand from her wrist, along her palm, lingering on her fingertips with my own. Looking up into her eyes, I ask, Are you sure you want to?ā€

She meets my eyes. ā€œNo.ā€ Her voice whispers the simple word I was hoping she would say. ā€œBut theyā€™re expecting me down there.ā€ My stomach aches when she starts to get up. ā€œThanks for catching me when I fell.ā€ She brushes the sand off her dress and walks through the wheat grass toward the shore.

Teaser Excerpt 2

ā€œYouā€™re a freak like me,ā€ Naya says, no doubt present in her tone.

Shaken by her word choice, but intrigued to know why sheā€™s chosen it, I ask, ā€œAm I? And how do you know that?ā€ I swallow nothing, feeling my throat constrict as I wait for her answer.

With concern on her face, her lips purse, and she shrugs one shoulder. ā€œI just know.ā€ She touches my arm, leans into me and whispers, ā€œAs a friend, just be careful. The people here,ā€ she looks to her left and then to her right, ā€œwellā€¦they arenā€™t very nice to our kind.”

The Author

Ainsley Shay

AinsleyĀ Shay avoids insanity by living mostly in the fiction world. SheĀ believes surrounding herself with positive people, and strives forĀ balance in everything. She ownsĀ more jeans with rips and holes thanĀ without; and has recently found the magic of patches. For her, readingĀ or writing the perfect sentence is better than the smoothestĀ piece ofĀ dark chocolate melting in her mouth. She is a deltiologist for pureĀ enjoyment, not for the study of. She longs to move north one day, evenĀ though she hates theĀ cold. (Go figure!) So, for now, she continues toĀ live in warm south Florida with her incredible husband, three beautifulĀ daughters, and two lazy cats. (We wonā€™t mention theĀ dog.)
